Aloo Tikki Recipe

Aloo Tikki is a popular Indian street food made out of potato patties which is its rough translation. These patties made crisp and delicious and are usually eaten as a snack. The stuffing used in the patties is made of lentils, sauce, herbs, cheese, and spice powders making them very much delicious.

This is a north Indian snack and is highly famous in the region. There is also a non-stuffed version of this cuisine where the Tikki or the patty is a directly deep fried and served. But usually, the stuffed version of Aloo Tikki is most popular everywhere.

Firstly we’d need a boiled potato, chopped chili, ginger garlic paste cumin powder, turmeric, salt, mint, coriander, oil, and cornflour for extra crispiness. We’ll need to mash the potatoes and add chopped chili, ginger garlic paste, turmeric, and chili powder in sequence. Then we have to add mint, coriander, and cumin powder.

Lastly, we add cornflour and mix the batter properly to form the dough. We’ll have to make small balls out of this dough and roast or deep fry these in pre-heated oil in medium flame. The fried fritter is served with the custom made sauce and spices in accordance.

INGREDIENTS

4 potatoes
1 cup green peas
breadcrumbs
1 tbsp corn flour
1 tsp ginger
1/2 tsp garam masala
1/2 tsp red chili powder
1/2 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp salt
oil
coriander leaves

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Boil the potatoes in a pressure cooker.

  2. Peel and mash it gently.

  3. Boil the peas for few minutes

  4. Take the mashed potatoes, boiled peas, breadcrumbs, cornflour, ginger, coriander leaves, green chilies, red chili powder, garam masala powder, lemon juice, sugar, salt

  5. Mix them to prepare 8-10 round shape patties. Coat the patties with breadcrumbs

  6. Now heat oil in a pan and fry the patties one at a time

  7. Serve the hot patties with tomato sauce.

Aloo Tikki is believed to have been originated from the Indian subcontinent. This is a north Indian delicacy but is also eaten by people throughout the subcontinent.

Aloo Tikki Burger Recipe

Ingredient list

  6. Coriander leaves for about 2 tablespoons. The leaves add a unique taste to the burgers. You cannot change them with other kinds of leaves.

  7. Ghee for about 1 tablespoon. The ghee can be bought easily in an Indian store.

Making ghee is easy actually. You need to practice more. The key is the best cow milk or goat milk.

Method of Preparation

  1. First, heat the potatoes by boiling them. Do not let it go too soft.

  2. Second, make them mashed completely. You need to do it very carefully.

  3. Third, now it is time to add some chilli and the coriander leaves.

  4. Fourth, sprinkle the garam masala, chaat masala, a pinch of salt, the ginger paste, and the red chili powder.

  5. The ghee must be heated up now. One tablespoon of this ingredient will be just fine.

  6. Make bread crump with the flour. Do it very carefully. Probably you will need to add more flour if it gets too sticky.

  7. Now, it is time to make balls from the dough. Do it very carefully too. The shape must be good.

  8. Make them flat and then place them all on a dry clean tray.

  9. After that, heat up cooking oil for about 5 tablespoons.

  10. Make sure the oil is really hot to fry the tikki.

  11. Fry the tikkis until they get brownish. Make sure you make no burnt tikkis.

  12. Lift them up and then place them on a cooking paper or tissue.

  13. It is almost done. Place them in an oven with 180° Celsius temperature.

  14. Finally, you can eat burgers. It is recommended to combine them with chutney.
